The China Academy of Art celebrated its 90th anniversary in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on April 8. 

CAA grew out of its predecessor, the National Academy of Art, which was founded in Hangzhou in 1928. It has nurtured many artists over the past 90 years and has actively participated in promoting the development of Zhejiang province. 

Last month, a group of freshmen, under guidance from tutors, submitted more than 1,000 emblem design proposals for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, expressing their appreciation for sports and the city of Hangzhou through various patterns. 

"The design should demonstrate the Olympic spirit while also representing the culture and core values of China. It should also reflect the special characteristics of the game in Hangzhou," the organizing committee explained. 

The freshmen studied the emblems of previous events and traversed the city's streets, libraries, scenic spots and historical sites in search of inspiration. 

In 2016, the G20 Summit increased Hangzhou's recognition around the world. CAA, one of the most prestigious art academies in Zhejiang, was an active participant in the event. 

Yuan Youmin of the CAA's School of Design, along with his partners, designed the summit's logo, which featured an image of a bridge and an imprint of a traditional Chinese seal.
