TRIPOLI - Indiscriminate shelling on Sunday hit a camp of the internally displaced people of Tawergha in Libya's capital Tripoli, killing two people and injuring five others.

"Al-Falah camp, also known as camp No 2, inhabited for seven years by families of Tawergha city, was hit directly by a rocket-propelled grenade on Sunday night," Imad al-Tawerghi, member of the information office of Tawergha displaced people's union, told Xinhua.

Al-Tawerghi said that the rocket shell caused by the armed fighting in Tripoli claimed the lives of two brothers and injured five women, some of them very seriously wounded.

Southern Tripoli has been witnessing violent clashes since Monday between government forces and armed militias, which have so far killed 41 people and injured 123 others.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, condemned the continued escalation of violence in and around Tripoli, warning that "indiscriminate use of force is a violation of international humanitarian and human rights law."

Following the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Gaddafi's regime, Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political division.
