China to select 2,000 schools for inheritance of fine traditional culture

BEIJING -- China is looking to select around 2,000 schools for the inheritance of fine traditional Chinese culture in 2019, according to a circular made public by the Ministry of Education (MOE) Friday.
The inheritance mainly focuses on the traditional folk music, arts, dance, opera, calligraphy, crafts and sports of the ethnic groups of China.
The selection aims at fully integrating fine traditional Chinese culture into the education at schools and guiding the country's youth to absorb Chinese wisdom, promote Chinese spirit and spread Chinese values, the circular reads.
The selection work will be carried out based on a document on the issue released in 2017, which made clear the goals, tasks, requirements and procedures of the selection.
Most of the country's provincial-level regions as well as Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps can recommend up to 60 schools each to the MOE, while each of the 14 regions with more than 5 million middle and primary school students can recommend as many as 70 schools, according to the circular.
