
The second leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2019 is set to be held in Jinan, capital city of East China's Shandong province on Aug 8-10.
FINA is the French acronym for the Federation International de Natation, or in English the International Swimming Federation -- which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee for administering international competitions in water sports.
The world cup is one of the highest levels of FINA competitions and the latest round is the highest level of individual sports events to be held in Jinan so far.
Nearly 220 athletes from 20 countries and regions have signed up to compete in Jinan, among them some recently crowned world champions and there are also Olympic medalists.
The world cup leg in Jinan includes 34 events, 16 per gender and two mixed relays. All the events in the meet will be held in a 50 meter pool and will be qualifying races for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The FINA Swimming World Cup 2019 includes seven legs in the Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Tokyo, Jinan, Singapore, Budapest in Hungary, Germany's Berlin, Kazan in Russia and Doha complete the 2019 list of host cities.
The 2019 prize money will total over $2.5 million.
Jinan is a new comer to the circuit, establishing the competition in the ever-growing Chinese sports market.
