Yiwu logistics ready for online shopping spree
The logistics industry in Yiwu, Zhejiang province is prepared for the Singles Day shopping gala which falls on Nov 11 every year, according to the municipal postal administration bureau on Nov 7.
Recently updated statistics suggest that Yiwu's logistics companies have added 1,805 delivery trucks and recruited over 5,300 personnel.
From Nov 11 to 18, the city is expected to deliver a total of 200 million packages, with a daily peak of 40 million, three times that of the daily average in 2019, according to an estimation by the postal administration bureau.
"We will set up command centers in logistics industrial parks to monitor the situation and raise warnings if necessary," said a spokesperson for the bureau.
Yiwu has over 310,000 vendors with an online presence, according to e-commerce giant Alibaba. Roughly 40 percent of cross-border parcels handled by Cainiao, Alibaba's logistics arm, come from Yiwu and its surrounding areas.
The Singles Day shopping gala is when brands unveil their flashiest ads and biggest discounts, looking to catch as many eyeballs and open as many wallets as possible.
