Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom have approved Prime Minister Boris Johnson's plan for Britain to leave the European Union on Jan 31.

Johnson's Brexit bill passed by a comfortable margin, 358 to 234 on Friday, after the Conservatives won an 80-seat majority at last week's general election.

Before the vote, the prime minister had urged MPs to "come together as a new Parliament to break the deadlock and finally to get Brexit done".

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said it was a reckless bill that will tear communities apart.

The bill will now be further scrutinised in the House of Commons and the House of Lords before it can be made into law.
