Optics Valley recruits psychological aid volunteers
Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone – also known as Optics Valley of China – located in the epicenter of the novel coronavirus in central Hubei province – has introduced another effective and imaginative measure designed to counter the negative effects of the outbreak, according to local media reports on Feb 3.
The reports said Optics Valley has established a psychological aid volunteers group and started to recruit professional volunteers with psychological crisis intervention capabilities.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen the prevention and control of the infection and provide guidance and services for the psychological balance and mental health of locals.
According to the recruitment announcement, the main task of the volunteers is to assist the community staff to learn about the demands of local residents during and after the period of epidemic prevention and control.
They will also provide psychological support, counseling and intervention services for the people in a state of psychological crisis.
Officials said that other aims include taking care of residents, resolving conflicts amid neighbors in time, assisting in counseling work for diagnosed and suspected patients, as well as helping to stabilize the overall mood of communities.
