UNESCO announced that the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, originally scheduled from June 29 through July 9, will be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to news released by the Ministry of Education on April 15.

Sponsored by UNESCO, the 44th session of the committee was originally planned to be held in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province. It would be the second time for China to host the event after Suzhou, Jiangsu province in 2009 and it is a platform to promote exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, sustainable development, and the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The organizing committee said that the session could still be held this year, but it will depend on how the pandemic situation progresses. Further information will be provided as soon as possible.
