Development of Shanghai's AI industry to become world leading by 2025


The overall development of artificial intelligence in Shanghai will achieve a world leading level by 2025, said Chen Mingbo, deputy secretary-general of the city's municipal government, at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference on Thursday.
Chen was speaking at the AI Night Talk - Pujiang Intelligence Round Table Forum, which featured government representatives and business executives discussing about the development of AI.
Chen pointed out that Shanghai is aiming to become a budding AI highland and has advantages in different aspects after two years of efforts, including a continuous improvement of technology and a rich pool of education resources.
He added that the city will aim to take the lead in brain-computer interface as the next step its development.
Chen noted that the city has more than 1,100 artificial intelligence core enterprises, with a core output value of nearly 150 billion yuan, and the leading number of intelligent networked vehicles and robots in the nation.
The number of AI talents in the city has been increasing as well. Shanghai presently has more than 100,000 AI employees, accounting for one-third of the national total.
Many founders of AI enterprises in Shanghai have also won international technology awards or have studied and worked abroad experience, according to Chen.
