Companies in Zhangjiang Science City, the heart of biomedicine in Shanghai, have shown great interest in the 4th CIIE's new biomedicine subsection, hoping to take the opportunity to widen their businesses.
"The subsection is a good chance for Zhangjiang to give full play to its innovative advantages in the life and health industry and to seek more global cooperation in life science," said Lou Qi, GM of Shanghai Zhangjiang Biotech & Pharmaceutical Base Development Co Ltd.
According to the China International Import Expo Bureau, the subsection welcomes exhibits ranging from biological products and new therapies such as vaccines, recombinant proteins, blood products, cell and gene therapy and tumor immunotherapy, to biological technology and R&D platform services, including enzyme engineering, biochip technology, gene sequencing technology and bioinformatics.
Zhangjiang has these sectors in place and some of the enterprises involved are ranked at international leading levels.
As the center of Shanghai's layout of biomedical industries, Zhangjiang is a cradle of innovations in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
Seven out of the world's top 10 pharmaceutical enterprises have set their regional headquarters or R&D centers in Zhangjiang, including Roche, Novartis and Pfizer.
It is noteworthy that a batch of entrepreneurial teams in Zhangjiang equipped with leading scientists, globalized R&D teams and top level venture capital have shifted from "licensing in" drugs from overseas biomedical companies to "licensing out" patented drugs to them. Exports of home-made drugs have been increasing year by year.
As a new highlight of the 4th CIIE, the biomedicine subsection will occupy 2,500 square meters in Hall 7.1 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) and will feature new biological products and therapies as well as research and development platforms and bio technologies like biochips and enzyme engineering.
"The new subsection to display products of global biomedical companies will accelerate trade, cooperation and industrial exchanges. It will also inform domestic market players of cutting-edge technologies and industrial updates, helping the industry to develop on a large international scale with clusters," Lou said.
Applications for the 4th CIIE's Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products exhibition area keep rolling in.
Statistic showed that 138 companies, including 64 Fortune 500 companies and industrial leaders, have signed up.
