The number of freight trains traveling through the new western land-sea corridor reached 10,000 on Wednesday.

Carrying goods weighing 3,687 tons — including a cargo of rice — a freight train left Qinzhou Port in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region for Tuanjie village in Chongqing on Wednesday afternoon. It was the 1,818th freight train to use the corridor this year and the 10,000th since the start.

In September 2017, a Chongqing-Guangxi-Xinjiang regular train set out southbound from Qinzhou Port, officially launching China-Singapore connectivity initiatives.

With Beibu Gulf Port in Guangxi as the junction, the corridor links China with Singapore and ASEAN countries by sea to the south and converges with the China-Europe Railway to the north. It was put into regular use the same month.
