The China International Import Expo Bureau held an online promotional event on June 17 to attract Argentine companies to the fourth CIIE, which is scheduled to take place this November. Nearly 300 officials and businesspeople attended the meeting.
Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said at the event that China and Argentina have huge potential for economic and trade cooperation. A variety of Argentine products, such as beef, wine and dairy products, were brought to China through Argentine exhibitors during the past three editions of the CIIE, and these products have proved to be rather popular among Chinese consumers, he added.
The CIIE is looking forward to the participation of more Argentine companies, and hopes to enhance cultural exchange between the two countries, said Liu.
According to Santiago Paz, investment director of the Argentine Investment and Trade Promotion Agency, more than 120 companies from his country have attended the CIIE since its inaugural edition in 2018.
At the first and the second CIIE, Argentina set up a national pavilion to showcase local products and culture. Last year, 40 Argentine companies participated in the third edition despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alejandro Sehtman, the chief of cabinet of Argentina's Ministry of Productive Development, said at the webinar on behalf of minister Matias Kulfas that the CIIE plays a significant role in promoting economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The ministry, which is the main department responsible for organizing companies to attend the CIIE, hopes that the expo will help enhance bilateral cooperation in fields like digital economy, biotechnology, and smart city construction, as well as diversify Argentina's exports to China, said Sehtman.
Chinese Ambassador to Argentina Zou Xiaoli said his embassy would offer all necessary support to facilitate communication between Chinese and Argentine companies.
Wang Kun, deputy director of the international business department at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), said the bank will upgrade its financial solutions to smoothen the path to cooperation between companies from China and Argentina. ICBC is one of the commercial partners of the CIIE.
