Shanghai's Pudong New Area speeds up transportation system efforts


Shanghai's Pudong New Area is speeding up efforts to build a comprehensive transportation system in the next five years, aiming to strengthen its leading and radiating role in the Yangtze River Delta region, according to the Pudong New Area Construction and Transportation Committee.
Zhang Rong, an official from the Pudong New Area Construction and Transportation Committee, said continued efforts will be made to accelerate the construction of transport infrastructure and build Pudong into a leading global comprehensive transportation hub.
According to Zhang, the construction of Shanghai's East Railway Station and terminal three of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport will be accelerated during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
Looking into the next five years, more efforts will be made to bring Pudong closer to a global aviation hub, promote the fourth phase expansion project of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, accelerate the construction of comprehensive facilities, speed up the construction of Shanghai's East Railway Station and promote the construction of express metro lines, Zhang added.
Official data showed an express metro line connecting Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports is scheduled to be completed by 2024, which will significantly slash travel time between the two airports by more than half to about 40 minutes.
