Most bullet trains operated by China Railway Zhengzhou Group resumed services on Thursday after torrential rains halted their operation in Central China's Henan province, the national railway operator said on Friday.

According to China State Railway Group, the national railway operator, 648 high-speed train services resumed operation, more than 80 percent of scheduled services.

The province was hit by downpour since July 20, inundating many high-speed railway lines passing the area, including major railways linking Beijing and Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Zhengzhou and Xi'an in Shaanxi province, as well as Zhengzhou and Xuzhou in Jiangsu province.

The provincial capital Zhengzhou is a transfer hub for China's railway network and an intersection of the north-south bound and east-west bound lines.

The disaster caused massive delays and cancellations. More than 23,000 passengers were transferred to safety areas, and about 1.56 million stranded passengers were evacuated.
