Baise in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, China's largest mango production base, is expected to harvest more than 1 million metric tons of mangoes with a total value of over 5.5 billion yuan ($820.7 million) this year, Baise officials announced during a June 21 press conference.

Baise, located in the valley of the Youjiang River, was one of the first mango plantation areas in China. As of 2021, the city had a total mango plantation area of 1.36 million mu (90,667 hectares), 1.1 million mu of which has been put into use, with over 30 varieties of mangoes having been planted. The number of enterprises managing the fine and deep processing of mangoes also increased from four in 2021 to 10 this year.

A total of 490 administrative villages in Baise's 45 counties, towns and streets rely on mangoes as their leading industry, benefiting 200,000 impoverished people, increasing their income by 4,000 yuan each annually.

Baise has also established an overall stable and long-term cooperation system integrating production, marketing and logistics with farmers' markets such as Beijing's Xinfadi wholesale market. In addition, nearly 10,000 enterprises have begun selling Baise mangoes on e-commerce platforms such as Tmall and JD, promoting the fruit worldwide.
