The Sitai site in Shangyi county, Zhangjiakou, is the largest and most well-preserved site dating back to the early and middle Neolithic Age to be found in northwest Hebei province in recent years. The excavation space covers 1,700 square meters, with more than 40 dwellings and over 800 pottery, stone, bone and shell relics having been unearthed. The site provides evidence of the earliest settlement village in northern China, reflecting the transition from the Paleolithic Age to the Neolithic Age.
