China's railway network sets record of 21.45 million trips on first day of National holiday

China's railway network set a record on Tuesday for handling 21.45 million passenger trips, a historic high for single-day passenger volume via the railway system, the national railway operator China State Railway Group said on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the national railway is expected to operate 18.2 million passenger trips and arrange for the operation of an additional 1,028 passenger trains, the group said.
China's railway network is expected to handle 175 million passenger trips during the National Day holiday travel rush, which began on Sunday and will end on Oct 8.
