Top legislature advances key laws for growth, livelihoods

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) has played a leading role in legislation by drafting and amending several laws to promote high-quality economic and social development, Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the third session of the 14th NPC, said on Tuesday.
Since the second session of the 14th NPC last year, the Standing Committee has focused on improving the country's legal system to keep legislation in step with national development, Lou said.
Over the past year, the committee reviewed 39 bills and adopted 24 of them, including six new laws, 14 amendments, and four legal decisions on major issues, he said.
It has worked on laws related to energy, mineral resources, and taxation to support the growth of new quality productive forces, while also prioritizing legislation that improves livelihoods, including measures on education, cultural relics, science and technology, and emergency response, he said.
In addition, the committee has strengthened legislation to optimize the people's congress system and support China's high-level opening-up, Lou added.
