Members of the Chinese Red Cross International Emergency Response Team work on a residential building in Mandalay, Myanmar, on March 31, 2025. The team carried out earthquake relief efforts in the earthquake-stricken Mandalay, including building demolition, search and rescue operations, medical transport, healthcare assistance, and psychological counseling services. A magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck central Myanmar with a focal depth of 30 kilometers on March 28, 2025. The quake caused buildings to collapse and severely damaged infrastructure such as bridges and roads. As of April 3, the quake has claimed 3,085 lives, left 4,715 injured, and 341 reportedly missing. Within just one day of the devastating quake, Chinese rescue teams rushed to Myanmar, becoming the first international force to arrive at the earthquake-stricken area.
