To cope with the rising electricity demand during the summer, the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company applied a centimeter-level positioning safety and control platform for special operations to complete on-site construction operations at the renovation site of the 110 kilovolt Chuncheng Substation on June 13. Unlike traditional video surveillance methods, this platform equips personnel and vehicles with intelligent badges containing high-precision positioning chips. It utilizes advanced ultra-wideband wireless communication technology to penetrate complex environments and can accurately capture real-time location information on-site, provide timely voice prompts for safety risks, and serve as a safety barrier for meeting the peak electricity demand during the summer.

Addressing safety risks such as dense equipment in substations and the interweaving of construction and live areas, traditional management methods struggle to achieve precise and effective control. By equipping on-site personnel and vehicles with centimeter-level positioning chips in intelligent badges, the system can identify 32 high-risk scenarios, including personnel trespassing and vehicle intrusion, with an accuracy rate as high as 99.9 percent. In the event of approaching risks, the platform triggers on-site audible and visual alarms within seconds and simultaneously sends information to management personnel, providing both on-site and remote insurance.

"This platform is like equipping each on-site personnel with an invisible 'personal safety officer', which has greatly enhanced supervision efficiency and reliability," said a project leader of the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply.

Since its deployment, this platform has prevented 27 safety risks, reduced unplanned power outages by more than 10 times, and compressed maintenance outage durations by nearly 40 percent.
