Flagship report released at Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025
A flagship document – the Global Eco-Transformation Report 2025: Paradigm Shift for Prosperity in Harmony with Nature – was released on July 6 at the 2025 Eco Forum Global Guiyang, located in the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
As the forum's first major flagship report in its 16-year history, it was viewed as marking a real milestone in advancing global ecological dialogue.
Jointly compiled by more than 50 experts over six months, the report offers a comprehensive analysis of ecological civilization from historical, structural and governance perspectives.
It traces 80 years of global development since the founding of the United Nations, contrasts ecological civilization with agricultural and industrial paradigms and outlines the urgent logic behind the transition.
Structured around three themes and six chapters, the report highlights the global shift from fossil fuels to zero-carbon energy – a transformation in which China holds both potential and an advantage.
It also emphasizes the growing application of nature-based solutions in China – from climate-resilient agriculture to urban ecological restoration, pointing to the synergies of nature, the economy and society.
During the launch, experts praised the report's depth and foresight, while officials emphasized its role as a global reference for policy and practice.
Pan Jiahua, the Chinese convener of the consultative committee of the Eco Forum Global Guiyang, said that the report would serve as a foundation for future flagship publications, driving greater international cooperation in ecological civilization.
