Hepatitis B public welfare event held in Beijing

A public welfare event on Hepatitis B was held in Beijing on Monday in an effort to call for multi-party collaboration to combat the disease.
The activity was hosted by CCTV.com on World Hepatitis Day. It documented the achievements of China's hepatitis B prevention and control system in the past 30 years, with multi-sector collaboration and participation from the entire society, and called for strengthening the integration of medical and preventive measures to implement the deployment of Healthy China 2030.
Statistics showed that in the past 30 years, China has transformed from a high-burden country for hepatitis B to a benchmark for hepatitis B prevention and control.
Cui Fuqiang, head of the department of laboratorial science and technology in preventive medicine at Peking University's School of Public Health, said: "Currently, we are standing at a crucial historical juncture towards the global elimination of viral hepatitis. We believe that the 'Chinese experience' in the prevention and control of chronic hepatitis B will provide a pivotal boost to the construction of a global community of health for all."
Wang Yu, president of the Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control, said that every child who receives a vaccine and every patient who persists in treatment are beacons of hope, igniting the hope of eliminating hepatitis B.
During the activity, a report was jointly issued by the China Health Promotion Foundation and the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the report, in response to the challenges of managing existing capacity and system development, it is particularly necessary to improve policy support, foster collaboration among healthcare services, insurance and medicine, and increase investment.
Furthermore, it is critical to enhance research and development and avoid discrimination in society, said the report.
