Big data enhances safety in Jiangxi's residential communities

On August 4 at 9 am, staff members from State Grid Jiaxing Power Supply Company received a big data analysis alert and immediately dispatched teams from local power supply stations to inspect low-voltage equipment at the Sanyou Xincun community in Zhongdai subdistrict, Pinghu, Jiaxing city, Zhejiang province. At the same time, four power supply stations—including Danghu and Xindai—joined forces to inspect 10 residential communities, conducting a comprehensive "health check".

Residential communities form the foundation of grassroots governance and a strong foundation ensures societal stability. Located near a national-level economic and technological development zone, Sanyou Xincun sees strong rental demand from local enterprise employees. In some self-built houses, over 10 air conditioners are often connected at once, causing heavy loads and potential hazards such as overheating switches and damaged low-voltage insulation requiring timely rectification and long-term solutions.

In March 2025, State Grid Jiaxing launched a pilot project in Pinghu to address power supply management challenges in densely populated communities. By analyzing electricity consumption patterns using big data, the company studied 266,800 low-voltage residential users across 385 communities in Pinghu. Through K-means clustering analysis, it identified 10 suspected "high-density communities" and established an early-warning mechanism to classify communities into five risk levels—including "high-density" and "potential risk"—with corresponding alert thresholds and control measures.

As urbanization accelerates, densely populated residential areas are growing rapidly, bringing more complex electricity demands. To enhance residents' access to reliable electricity, State Grid Jiaxing is expanding the application of big data in grid operation, maintenance and customer service. The company is also strengthening cooperation with local government departments, rolling out services such as "one-click call" and "safe power", and leveraging data-driven insights to support urban governance.
