Xizang city transforms into conservation model

Nagchu in the Xizang autonomous region has made significant strides in ecological protection since the region's establishment in 1965, local officials announced on Tuesday.
Li Meng, executive vice-mayor of Nagchu, said that over the past 60 years, the city's ecological environment has consistently improved, achieving a transformation from one-way exploitation to green development.
"Building on the functional positioning of the ecological conservation area in northwestern Xizang, we have established ecological function zones, such as the Maidika Wetland and the Tangbei Area of Sanjiangyuan National Park," said Li.
"The total area of the city's 18 nature reserves has reached 223,400 square kilometers, accounting for 51.7 percent of Xizang's protected natural areas," he said.
