China reiterates opposition to?unilateralism, protectionism amid Mexico tariff increase speculation

China opposes unilateralism, protectionism and discriminatory and exclusionary measures in any form, a Foreign Ministry spokesman has said amid reports that Mexico plans to increase tariffs on Chinese goods.
As per a Bloomberg News report, Mexico's government is set to raise tariffs on Chinese imports as part of next month's 2026 budget proposals.
China firmly opposes the activities of constraining China under others' coercion, Guo said on Thursday, adding that he believes that "the relevant country will handle the issue independently and properly".
Noting that Mexico is China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America, and that China is the third largest export destination for Mexico, Guo said economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is mutually beneficial in nature.
