China's top trade negotiator urged closer dialogue and cooperation with the United States during his talks in Washington earlier this week, calling for joint efforts to ensure stable and sustainable growth in bilateral economic ties, said the Ministry of Commerce in a statement on Saturday.

Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative and vice-minister of commerce, visited the US from Wednesday to Friday, holding talks with officials from the US Department of the Treasury, the US Department of Commerce and the Office of the US Trade Representative, according to the statement.

Li and US government officials engaged in talks on implementing the consensus reached during the call between the two heads of state, as well as on bilateral trade relations and follow-up consultations.

Li stressed that China and the US should uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, while fully utilizing bilateral consultation mechanisms to manage differences, expand cooperation, and promote the sound, stable and sustainable growth of bilateral economic and trade ties.

During his visit, Li also met with representatives of the US-China Business Council, the US Chamber of Commerce and US companies, engaging in in-depth discussions on bilateral economic and commercial cooperation.
