Fishing fleets from Ningbo, Zhejiang province, returned to the East China Sea on Sept 16, marking the end of the four-month fishing moratorium and the start of the new harvest season.

At Shipu Port in Xiangshan county, over 1,000 vessels lined up and headed into open waters at noon, engines roaring and sails dotting the horizon, creating a spectacular scene.

The excitement was evident among crews eager to return to the sea.

"After months of rest, it feels great to finally head out. We hope for a safe journey and a full catch," said Yang Zhanghao, a veteran skipper.

Earlier that morning, at Tongzhao Wharf in Fenghua district, hundreds of ships were already gathered, anchored, and ready, with red flags fluttering in the breeze. By midday, more than 700 vessels surged into the East China Sea, racing toward fishing grounds. The fastest boats reached designated areas by evening, casting the first nets of the season.

Fishermen expect the first fresh catches to return to port within three days, bringing a bounty of seafood to local markets.
