On Jan 24-29, 1994, the CPC Central Committee held a national conference on publicity and ideological work in Beijing.

Jiang Zemin said at the meeting that publicity and ideological work should arm the people with the scientific theory, guide the people with the correct public opinion, imbue the people with lofty ideals, and inspire the people with excellent works, so as to train the people from generation to generation with ideals, ethics, culture and discipline who can play a strong role in ideology and public opinion in the building of the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
