CPC Encyclopedia | Updated: 2013-03-06 15:49

On March 7, 1948, the Communist Party of China's Field Army of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Area launched the?Linfen Campaign under the command of Xu Xiangqian.

Linfen Campaign (in simplified Chinese 臨汾戰(zhàn)役) was a series of battles fought between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Kuomintang during the Liberation?War to control the city of Linfen, and resulted in the?CPC victory.

The?campaign lasted 18 days. The CPC forces totalled 53,000 and?killed more than 25,000 soldiers in the Kuomintang armies.

The fall of Linfen meant that the last Kuomintang stronghold in southern Shanxi was finally eliminated. The communist victory of Linfen Campaign resulted in the liniking up of the Lüliang?liberated area and Taiyue?liberated area, and the entire southern Shanxi region falling into the?CPC hands.
