Updated: 2009-11-13 15:15

A severely ill A/H1N1 flu patient in Guangxi was cured by a blood plasma transfusion from two A/H1N1 ex-patients, chinanews.cn reported Thursday.

“The blood plasma transfusion of ex (A/H1N1) patients is an effective way to cure severe A/H1N1 cases,” said Wang Jianzheng, deputy director of the Health Care Reform office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Health Bureau. “Next we will study the severe cases and apply this therapy properly.”

“Recovered A/H1N1 flu patients are encouraged to donate their blood to help other patients,” Wang added.

Guangxi has reported 1,648 A/H1N1 cases as of Wednesday, 1,179 of which have been cured and discharged. Eight are severe cases, with two cured, one dead, and another five recovering in hospital, according to the Health Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The bureau Thursday enacted ten emergency measures to prevent an A/H1N1 flu outbreak, including classifying patients’ treatment, strengthening medical product stocks, promoting A/H1N1 vaccines, and collecting the healthy blood of recovered patients, according to reports.
