On August 13, 1937, the Japanese army attacked Shanghai in what is known as the August 13 Incident. The national government mobilized more than 70 divisions to fight in the Battle of Shanghai, which lasted three months. Over 40,000 Japanese troops were killed or wounded. The picture shows the front-line officers and soldiers who were firing at the Japanese soldiers. [Photo/Exhibition Road to Rejuvenation at the National Museum of China]
