City-dwellers head to country for fruit picking

By Xu Lin | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-07-02 20:05

With the season for harvesting fruit upon us, more and more city dwellers tend to go to suburban gardens to pick their own fruit. The season for such fruit picking will last until the end of August.

Fruit picking tours vary as the weather and natural environments are different throughout the country. The popular fruits for picking recently in East China include waxberries, mulberries and grapes. In South China, plums, mangos and lychees are people's favorites.

Fruit picking tours only became popular in recent years, as more urban residents wanted to leave the city at weekends and more private cars are available.

Parents like to take their children to the countryside on weekends to be close to nature. After picking fruit, they can rest at a restaurant and enjoy local specialties, away from the hustle-and-bustle of the cities. They can also enjoy outdoor sports.

According to Tuniu.com, a tourism website in China, fruit picking is highly subject to weather conditions, so people should check the weather forecast before making plans.
