Trapped Vietnamese tourists arrive in Xi'an

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-07-14 14:24

LANZHOU - Thirty-eight Vietnamese tourists, who were trapped on Friday night after rain-triggered landslide and mudslide had cut off traffic, arrived Sunday morning in Xi'an, the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, local authorities said.

More than 100 tourists, including the Vietnamese nationals, became trapped in Wenxian county in Gansu province while en route to Jiuzhaigou, a renowned nature reserve in neighboring province of Sichuan.

They were accommodated in the county's Bikou Township later that night. The Wenxian government provided food and medical cares to the tourists.

Local governments have mobilized personnel to repair the roads that were damaged.

The Vietnamese tourists have canceled their travel plans.

Downpours have lashed China's southwestern and northwestern regions since Monday, triggering flooding and landslides that have already left dozens dead and more than 100 missing or unable to be reached.

Local meteorological authorities warned that a new round of heavy rain is expected to hit Sichuan, which was worst hit by the rainstorms, next Wednesday.
