The family of a traffic accident victim has received 260,000 yuan ($42,980) in compensation eight years after the accident, with the help of a DNA test to prove their relationship, Modern Gold Daily reported on Monday.

The accident occurred at about 9:45 pm on Sept 14, 2005, in a street in Cixi city, Zhejiang province, and a middle-aged man was killed. As the man had no identification on him and no one claimed the body, police saved DNA for possible later identification.

Eight years later, a man from Xinxian county, Henan province, arrived in Cixi looking for his father who worked in the city and had been missing for eight years. Police then compared DNA test from the man and the deceased victim in the accident and confirmed that the man was the son of the accident victim.

In December 2013, the victim's son brought a lawsuit against Zhang who was a truck driver and made the accident and finally got the compensation on Sunday.
