No timetable for full relaxation of one-child policy

China currently has no plans to suspend or further relax its one-child policy, said Liu Binjie, head of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee under the National People's Congress.

The announcement means that couples who both have a sibling, can still only have one child.

"Since November 2013, China allows couples, to have two children if one spouse is a single child. The policy has not been fully implemented yet. We need to observe for a longer time to see if China's population will develop steadily."

"The ongoing census will further evaluate China's demography before birth rules can be further relaxed," Liu said.
