ASEAN summit gets underway

The 22nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit opened on Wednesday evening in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei, under the theme "Our People, Our Future Together".

The summit is expected to focus on community building efforts toward regional integration and to strive to forge a common stance on important regional economic and security issues.

Hackers cause panic with tweet

Hackers spooked markets on Tuesday after breaking into The Associated Press Twitter account and falsely reporting US President Barack Obama had been injured after two blasts at the White House. A brief alert on the news agency's @AP account read: "Breaking: Two explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."

Center-left PM appointed

Italy's president has appointed Enrico Letta as prime minister, asking him to try to form a government to end Italy's political paralysis and set the country back on the path of reform and economic growth. Letta, a 46-year-old center-left lawmaker, said he accepted the job knowing it's an enormous responsibility.
