New book on old Chinese villages

By Wang Kaihao ( chinadaily.com.cn ) Updated: 2016-01-07 13:52:42

A book on traditional villages in Southwest China was recently released to get people more involved in conservation efforts of such places.

Our Home: Qiandongnan Traditional Village, published by Culture and Arts Publishing House, focuses on Miao and Dong ethnic groups who live in the Qiandongnan area of Guizhou province, and records their history, cultural characteristics and preservation activities.

The book covers some 100 villages with the aim of finding new ways to balance modern and traditional lifestyles.

The book is based on a survey of rural Qiandongnan conducted by the area's local government in 2014. More than 270 villages in Qiandongnan have been categorized as nation-level traditional villages by several central government departments, the most for all city-level administrative regions in China.
