A fire was first reported in an iron mine in Baita Township, privately run by Li Shengwen and others, at approximately 10:30 a. m.

The fire quickly spread to four other nearby iron mines, trapping 75 miners.

An 80-member rescue team, headed by Hebei Province Governor Ji Yunshi, rushed to the mines after the accident.

The whereabouts of the 60 trapped miners are still unknown.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
