后來，Mary悄悄地問我：“如果你最近手頭不方便的話， 我能幫你什么忙嗎？”
不會啊，不是早晨才發(fā)了薪水嗎？我被她問得一頭霧水，解釋半天才弄明白。原來, "tighten my belt" 是指經(jīng)濟拮據(jù)，必須節(jié)衣縮食度日。例如: "The harvest was bad last year, we all had to tighten our belts."
