聽說過"in a pickle"這個短語嗎？ 這是英語口語中一個常見的短語，意思是“困境、混亂、逆境”(a difficult or confused condition; mess”) 。
“In a pickle”這個短語的意思好象和”pickle”（泡菜）根本沾不上邊。不過，究其根源，"pickle"來源于荷蘭語中的 “pekel”, 是 “brine”（鹽水）的意思， 而當時"pickle"這個單詞用來指用鹽水或用醋進行鹵化腌制泡菜的方法。"To be in a pickle" 則非常形象地刻劃出某人所處的窘境，就象是被泡在粘糊而酸澀的液體里似的。
例如: “You are in a pretty pickle, aren’t you! Let me help you out.” （你深陷困境，是吧！ 讓我?guī)湍阋话寻伞＃?br/>
