Singapore clean energy market gets investment from China

2010-11-17 14:01

SINGAPORE - China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation (CGNPC) announced Tuesday that it will invest S$65 million ($50 million) into an Integrated Solar-Biomass Power Generation Project and a regional headquarters for its solar operations in Singapore.

The integrated solar-biomass power generation project features a biomass power plant, fueled by wood and horticultural waste, as well as a 250kW solar installation on the rooftop. All power generation is subject to on-grid sale.

The project is the first trial project of integrated solar-biomass power generation in Singapore. By exploring the technical and economical feasibilities of the comprehensive use of solar energy in Singapore and the region, this project can serve as an example of the practice in utilizing renewable energy.

"These investments will boost our clean technology ecosystem and contribute to the development of Singapore as a global cleantech hub," said Tan Choon Shian, Deputy Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board.

"It also affirms the attractiveness of Singapore as an internationalization platform for cleantech companies from China, now regarded as a global leader in sustainable energy," Tan added.
