China treats foreign, domestic net firms equally

2010-11-09 17:23

BEIJING - The Chinese government treats foreign-funded Internet enterprises the same as it treats domestic ones, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said Tuesday.

Zhang made the remarks while meeting with US attendees of the fourth China-US Internet Industry Forum in Beijing.

The US attendees included Under Secretary of State Robert Hormats and Chief Research and Strategy Officer of Microsoft Craig Mundie.

Zhang said the Chinese government attaches great importance to and actively promotes the development of the Internet.

The Chinese government regards the development of the Internet as an important way to boost national informatization and scientific and technological innovation, he said.

The integration of telecommunications networks, cable TV networks and the Internet as well as the fast increase in the number of Internet users are expected to bring new opportunities for the development of the Chinese internet, Zhang said.

Hormats spoke positively of the development of the Internet in China.

He said the US hopes to strengthen communication and cooperation with China in the information industry.

The two-day forum, co-hosted by Microsoft Corporation and the Internet Society of China, focused on China-US exchange and cooperation in cloud computing, cyber crime-fighting and online intellectual property rights protection.
