繼2003年中國古琴、昆曲被列入第一批"人類口頭和非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)"項(xiàng)目之后，2005年新疆木卡姆藝術(shù)以及蒙古族長調(diào)又雙雙被聯(lián)合國教科文組織宣布為第三批"人類口頭和非物質(zhì)遺產(chǎn)代表作"。一時(shí)間，"非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)"概念開始進(jìn)入公眾的視野，許多珍貴的民間傳統(tǒng)文化也相繼"浮出水面"。經(jīng)過半年多的緊張籌備，中國"非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)"保護(hù)成果展于2006年2月12日在中國國家博物館隆重開幕。

報(bào)道中的intangible cultural heritage就是"非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)"。Intangible意味"something that
cannot be perceived by the senses（無形的東西，尤其是感覺不到的資產(chǎn)），舉個(gè)通俗的例子：The intangible
value of love lies in the mutual trust（愛情中最無形的價(jià)值在于雙方互相信任）。
Heritage指"something that is passed down from preceding
generations；especially a tradition（由前輩傳下來的東西，尤強(qiáng)調(diào)傳統(tǒng)），如We Chinese have a
rich heritage of folklore（我們擁有豐富的民間文學(xué)）。
