Domestic smartphone maker Xiaomi recently invested $25 million in the iHealth lab of Tianjin-based Andon Health Co, showing its ambitions in mobile health.

IHealth enables smartphones to be connected to apparatus such as weighing-machines, glucometers, and sphygmomanometers.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show held in the US in January this year, iHealth companies showcased a number of wearable equipment such as wearable pulse oximeters and electrocardiographs.

The global mobile health markets are segmented into health condition tracking applications, wearable devices and medical appliances. The overall market is forecast to reach $49 billion.

The Asia-Pacific markets, including China, Japan, India and Australia, enjoy the most dynamic growth.

Xiaomi was founded in 2010 by serial entrepreneur Lei Jun. It produces hardware, software, and Internet services for – and with the help of – their Mi fans. Already it had sold more than 18 million handsets in China by 2013.

Established in Tianjin, China in 1995, Andon designs and manufactures products for its OEM and ODM customers that make it simple to test, manage and share heath information.
