ESPCP 2007 attracts participants from 47 countries

The 2007 Economic and Social Policy Consulting Program for Developing Countries (ESPCP), sponsored by Ministry of Commerce and organized by Human Resources Study and Training Center of DRC, held successfully from May 14 to 28. 78 participants from 47 developing countries participated in the program. They are senior government officials at director and director general levels and senior researchers responsible for research, formulation and implementation of development policies. They came from 47 countries of almost all the continents including Albania, Argentina, Benin, Bhutan, Botswana, Byelorussia, Chile, Congo, Cuba, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Jamaica, Laos, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe. In Beijing, Leaders and senior researchers from DRC’s relevant departments and institutes gave a series of lectures making systematic introductions to the historical process, achievements, problems and challenges as well as the major strategies and policies of the reform and opening-up as well as economic and social development in China. Representatives from the participants also made country reports illustrating the situation in the socio-economic development in respective nations. During the field study in Jiangsu Province, the participants visited Huaxi Village (the No. 1 village in China) and Hailan Group (one of the largest private garment enterprises). Senior officials from the Development Research Center of Jiangsu Province and Catres School of Wuxi Municipal Government introduced the situation in the reform and opening-up, as well as in the economic and social development in Jiangsu Province and Wuxi City. Through the exchange of development experiences, the program was welcomed and praised by the participants as a platform for the understanding and friendship among the developing countries.
