Pingnan strives to become online agro hub

A signing ceremony on the development of an e-commerce industrial park was held?between Pingnan government and Hangzhou Mwami Co on Aug 5. The pact will help drive the county to develop into an e-commerce service center of agricultural products in eastern Fujian.

The project, covering 6.7 hectares in the east of Pingnan, is expected to yield 200 million yuan ($31.24 million) in annual sales upon its construction in 2017. It will realize the online trading of 1,000 specialties covering sectors in culture, tourism, industry and agriculture, said Mwami's director Zhao Xiaobin.

In addition, a delegation led by General Manager Zhang Fengpeng, in charge of Alibaba's affairs in Fujian rural areas, paid a visit to Pingnan from Aug 5 to 6. The e-commerce giant Alibaba plans to invest 10 billion yuan to enlarge its coverage area in counties and villages within the next three to five years.

Pingnan has paid great attention to developing e-commerce recently, covering agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, communication, finance and service.

The county has a population of 200,000 and among them, some 2,800 among are engaged in e-commerce business. About 30 companies had set up their stores on online platforms such as Tmall, Taobao and JD.

In 2014, the county reached 732 million yuan in online transactions.
