An environmentally-friendly ceramics tile was developed in Hanggin Banner of Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, using of the aeolian sand from the Kubuqi Desert. Aeolian sand accounts for 30 percent of the tile’s raw materials, which also include dust from industrial waste. The new ceramic hit the market after meeting the state standard.

Kubuqi Desert is the seventh largest desert in China, covering an area of 1.45 million hectares in Ordos. The local government has been working on innovative ways for sand control, by integrating ecology with economic development.
