China-DPRK cross-border train line back in operation

2015-05-05

A tourist train that carries Chinese visitors to scenic spots at the Chilbosan resort, in Hamgyong province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), began operation from the city of Tumen on the Jilin border, on April 30.

The train runs once weekly and can hold 150 passengers for a four-day visit to the DPRK and according to the manager of a Tumen travel agency, Zhu Yilong, costs around 1,700 to 2,200 yuan ($193-354) for the total package.

This operation of the exclusive tourist train is a good sign, after the tourism business between the DPRK and China started up again on April 9.

Tumen is one of three Chinese entry points to the DPRK and has been used by tourists since 2011.
