Qingdao will start construction of underwater natural gas pipelines in Jiaozhou Bay in 2013 to meet the demand of main urban districts and improve gas utilization in the city.

The pipelines will have a total length of 30 kilometers, linking Jiaozhou city, gas pipelines of PetroChina and Sinopec, and the coast of Jiaozhou Bay from west to east. The project will be completed in 2014, achieving annual gas transportation of 2 billion cubic meters.

"Qingdao, a city lacking natural gas, will have an abundant gas supply when the liquefied natural gas (LNG) port of Sinopec opens in Dongjiakou in 2014," said Du Xiujun, president of Taineng Group. "Abundant gas supplies will guarantee large-scale resource exploitation and promote gas-fired generation for industrial and traffic gas utilization in Qingdao, without harm to environment."
