A Hanfu enthusiast in modern Qingdao

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2017-02-23

Dressing up in Hanfu is a new cosplay craze that has been sweeping across the country in recent years as people's itch for traditional Chinese culture has recovered.

Wang Zhongkun is one of the people living in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao infatuated with traditional Chinese culture and Hanfu.

Hanfu refers to the traditional clothes worn by the Han, China's majority ethnic group, for thousands of years before the rise of the Manchu Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Wang has turned his passion into a living by setting up a Hanfu store in Qingdao, where he designs and makes the costumes. He often visits museums with like-minded people to seek inspiration from ancient Chinese books and cultural relics.

To keep up with the current tide, Wang adds modern Western elements to his designs, an innovative approach to gather more attention, especially from young people.
